About Rift Drifter

Rift Drifter is a free arcade space shooter, drift through the rift, blast asteroids, upgrade your ship. Available in any modern browser, on iOS, and on Android (Closed Beta now, Production this week).

KEY FEATURES

  • Infinite chapters of escalating difficulty
  • Phased boss encounters in each chapter, survive long enough to face The Ace
  • Multiple unlockable ships, weapons, and cosmetic decals
  • Power-up stacking (rapid fire, triple shot, ion lance, shield)
  • Voidium currency earned by playing, spent in-game on upgrades
  • Resolution-aware gameplay, weapon range and beam length scale with screen size for iPad and desktop play
  • Taptic / vibration feedback on mobile, with independent audio and haptics settings
  • Reactive layered soundtrack that responds to gameplay state

WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT

  • No ads. No banners, no interstitials, no rewarded video. Ever.
  • No paywalls. Every ship, weapon, and chapter is free.
  • No pay-to-win. The optional tip jar gives you zero in-game advantage — it's a tip jar.
  • No login. No account, no email gate, no social sign-in. Open and play.
  • No engine. Vanilla JavaScript and HTML5 Canvas, single index.html, ~6,700 lines of game code, wrapped with Capacitor 8 for native iOS and Android shells.

THE BUILD STORY

Solo developer, no team, no funding. About a month from "I wonder if I could build a game" to live on the App Store. Claude Code (Anthropic's CLI coding agent) was the development partner from idea through launch, architecture iteration, debugging, native plugin integration, the App Store flow, build scripts, deployment infrastructure. Claude carried the technical workload while I focused on game feel, tuning, and the calls that needed human judgment. The same partnership continues post-launch for marketing operations and ongoing maintenance.

WHAT PLAYERS ACTUALLY GET

  • A complete arcade game playable in short sessions or long ones, your choice
  • Genuine retro-arcade tension; the difficulty curve is real and the bosses are designed to be hard
  • An upgrade loop where progress rewards practice, not payment
  • Active development — patches and feature updates ship regularly
  • Same game across phone, tablet, desktop, pick whichever device suits your moment

If you're curious about AI-assisted solo dev, what it actually looks like to ship a real, distributed, maintained product in a month with an AI coding partner, Rift Drifter is one data point.
