About Mnemosyne OS

Mnemosyne OS is a desktop app that gives your AI a memory that lasts. It remembers across sessions, conversations and models, and the memory stays on your own disk, in folders you can open.

Students: put your courses, PDFs and notes in a vault. Ask a question and get the answer with the page it came from.
Teachers: keep years of lessons, exercises and documents in one place, and find the one you made three years ago in seconds.
Business owners: clients, quotes, meeting recordings and documents in their own vault, kept apart from your personal life.
Freelancers and consultants: one vault per client, so a question about one project never pulls in another.
Researchers and writers: thousands of sources, searched by meaning and by exact words, with the source shown every time.
Developers: your coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor and others) share the same memory and remember your project between sessions.

HOW MEMORY IS ORGANIZED

Memory lives in vaults, one per part of your life: work, school, clients, journal. You choose which vaults an answer may read. A private vault can be locked so that no agent and no cross-vault search reads it.

WHAT GOES IN

Point Mnemosyne at the folders you already use. It watches them and indexes new and changed files: Markdown, Word, PDF, text and images. Long documents go in whole, split by their headings. You can also drop a web page, a screenshot or a photo onto the canvas and choose the vault it goes to.

WHAT COMES OUT

Ask a question in the chat. The answer comes with its sources, and you can open the file each one was taken from. Search combines meaning and exact words, so a product name, a number or an error message is found as well as an idea. A verified-answer mode re-reads each sentence against the sources and marks the ones it could not find there.

YOUR AGENTS SHARE THE SAME MEMORY

Mnemosyne ships an MCP server (@mnemosyne_os/mcp on npm). Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and other MCP clients can search your vaults, save what they learn and add tasks to your to-do list. Each agent sees only the vaults you granted it.

YOUR CHOICE OF MODEL

Run a local model on your own machine, use your own API key (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Mistral and others), or use prepaid credits. The memory index is built on your machine in every case. When you choose a cloud model, your question and the sources it needs are sent to that provider, and the app shows which route each answer took.

A WORKSPACE, NOT JUST A CHAT

An infinite canvas where you arrange your windows: notes, to-do list with alarms, agenda, document reader that reads aloud, image studio, and a conversation recorder with transcription. Several desktops keep work and personal apart. Voice dictation and a voice assistant run with local speech engines.

CARTRIDGES

Apps from the MnemoHub run inside Mnemosyne and read only the memory you allow: knowledge packs (local laws, history, climate), a reader, a CRM, agent dashboards. Developers can build their own with the cartridge SDK.

PLATFORMS AND PRICE

Windows, macOS and Linux. The app is free to download. A license unlocks premium features, and credits pay for cloud models if you do not bring your own key. Open core: the MCP server, the SDKs and many cartridges are public on GitHub.
